What is the Right Glass?

A well-prepared beverage is not finished until it's presented properly with fresh garnishes, a napkin and a clean glass.

For professional service with a professional cocktail, the right glass is an important expectation of the knowledgeable customer to finish the product.

Important guidelines for the "right glass" are:

SIZE:
The difference between a 3oz and 6oz cocktail glass is the recipe.  A drink should almost fill its glass.  It shouldn't look like the customer is not getting enough in a glass that's too big.  It also shouldn't run, dribble or spill out of a glass that's too small.

STEMMED GLASSWARE:
A stemmed cocktail glass should be used for chilled cocktails served straight-up without ice.  Wines are served in various stemmed glasses.  It is also used for "presentation" purposes to serve brandy, or to dress-up a beer and beyond!

ROCKS, HIGHBALL, COLLINS, COOLERS AND TUMBLERS:
Used for serving medium to large size recipes, drinks on ice, or highly garnished cocktails.

SPECIALTY GLASSWARE:
Popular drinks that have their own glasses are brandy snifters, beer  glass/mugs, champagne flutes, collins glass, cordials, irish-coffee glass/cups, and parfait glasses.

QUICK HINT:
Martinis, Manhattans and Stingers are served into stemmed cocktail glasses;  Highballs in highball glasses; Tom Collins into collins glasses;  Whiskey Sours into sour glasses ...  Be creative but stick to the guidelines.
