Curing a Hangover

The two most common medicinal problems that bartenders are asked to help are hiccups and hangovers.  Last season we looked at hiccup and this month hangovers:
Cause:  Take a quess!
Cures:  There are honestly only two real cures.
  1. Prevention.  Do not over-indulge, or let a customer be over-served.
  2. Sleep.  Drink plenty of water or water-based fluids, and get plenty of rest.  You'll most likely want peace and quiet anyway.
There are plenty of possible cures.  Just a few to mention using are:
  1. Drinking at least 2-ounces of a digestive (Fernet Branca is an excellent Italian digestive, or Underberg the German digestive).
  2. In Puerto Rico, Foley's friends Gere & Linda say to rub a half a lemon under each armpit.  Huh -?
  3. Drink a bottle of flat beer left out open overnight.
  4. Hair of the Dog!  Drink one shot of whatever you were drinking to cause it!
  5. A large Bloody Mary cocktail.
  6. For a champagne headache, take 2 aspirin before you start drinking!
  7. A few dashes of Angostura aromatic bitters with either water or soda to relieve an upset stomach.
  8. Plenty of coffee.
  9. A large heavy breakfast of pancakes or french toast is said to aid in absorbing any alcohol left in your stomach.
  10. One leg off the bed with your foot on the floor, as you imagine you're stopping the room from spinning, then rush to the bathroom ...  Promise the toilet you're holding that you'll never over-indulge again!
