Serving Tequila

Traditional Serving Method:
  1. Place salt on the web of the hand between your thumb and forefinger.
  2. Hold a wedge of lime or lemon with the same two fingers.
  3. Hold a 1-ounce shot glass filled with tequila in the other hand.
  4. In one quick continuous motion, lick the salt, drink the tequila, and bite the lime or lemon wedge.
Margarita Glasses:
  1. Using a fresh lemon slice, wet the rim of the margarita glass --or-- in a clean saucer of fresh water, turn over the margarita glass and dip the rim in the water to wet approximately 1/4-inch from the top.
  2. Add salt to cover the bottom of a clean saucer or small bowl.
  3. Dip the wet rim of the margarita glass in the salt.
  4. Pour your margarita or tequila recipe into the center of the glass, garnish and serve.
The Mezcal Worm:
The worm seen in the bottle of Mezcal is what makes it unique from tequila, besides its location in Mexico.  It is added as a reminder that it is made from this Agave plant where worms live during the rainy summer season.

Apocryphal legends note that the worm gives strength to anyone brave enough to gulp it down.  Some even believe it acts as an aphrodisiac.  It is definitely an acquired taste!
