BARTENDER'S
WINE EXPERT: JOSEPH DELISSIO |
BUYING BLIND
NAPA VALLEY WINERIES YOU CAN COUNT
ON
by Joseph DeLissio |
For all it's apparent simplicities, wine for most people still remains a very intimidating subject. Maybe its because many wine professionals force feed their opinions expecting the masses to blindly follow, or maybe, it's because the masses are looking for opinions they can blindly follow. Either way, I have always held the opinion that the only palate you need to impress is your own.
I have been in many social situations where I would observe both guests and hosts comfortably enjoying a glass of wine while they socialize. At some point in the evening through the course of chit chat, the fact that I am a wine professional is revealed and suddenly that wonderful carefree ease with wine becomes a bit more cautious.
Inevitably, I'm asked "Is this wine that I am drinking any good?" My standard response, "It must be, you keep drinking it"
Another question I am frequently asked is "Can you recommend any California wineries?" more specifically from the Napa Valley. Napa Valley is home to America's best known wineries and although great wines are made throughout the state, the designation of Napa Valley is for many a safety net.
With hundreds of wineries in the
Napa Valley, I have implemented some very strict criteria for
entry onto this elite list. (List is provided on the next
page)
